Career Technical Education
CTE programs allow students to earn industry experience during their high school career.
Central York's Career and Technical Education program envisions a future where every student is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to excel in their chosen careers and contribute meaningfully to society. The program strives to develop dynamic centers of excellence in specific areas tied to student's interests and high-priority occupations.
Through strong partnerships with industry leaders and a commitment to excellence, we aim to produce graduates who are not only job-ready but also poised to be leaders and innovators in their fields.
STUDENT BENEFITS
- Articulated credits to Post-Secondary Training Providers
Students who complete the scope and sequence of courses for a CTE program can register for college credits with partnering schools.
- Opportunities to earn Industry Recognized Credentials
Each CTE program includes instruction that prepares students to earn industry-recognized credentials. Industry Credentials support alternative graduation pathways for Act 158.
- Hands-on Experience
The program also offers opportunities for paid and unpaid internships that could lead to employment.
- Additional Pathway to Graduation
Students who complete the scope and sequence of courses for a CTE program will be prepared to sit for the NOCTI exam. Passing the NOCTI exam satisfied graduation requirements for Act 158.
SCHOOL DISTRICT BENEFITS
- Expanded Talent Pool
Many technical programs can be taught by industry professionals while they work towards an undergraduate degree in education. This opens up the hiring pool for teachers in these technical areas. For example, if the District implements a healthcare CTE program, many classes could be taught be an RN or LPN.
- Additional State Funding
Central York will receive an annual stipend for every student enrolled in a CTE class/program. These funds can be utilized to offset equipment, supplies, and staff as well as other expenses.
- Increased Community Engagement
Each CTE program is required to have an Occupational Advisory Committee made up of industry professionals to guide programs to ensure relevance.

Partnership
In an effort to build on existing infrastructure and improve community connections, Central York will partner with York County School of Technology for this initiative. The partnership will allow Central to expand programming with the support of York Tech's leadership team and staff. The District see this as an opportunity to leverage community resources while providing more opportunities to students.
