Graduation Requirements

CYHS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS


To receive a diploma from Central York High School, a learner must demonstrate satisfactory completion of 28 credits. These credits must come from a combination of required courses and electives. No course can be used to fulfill more than one graduation requirement.

 

CENTRAL YORK HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION CREDIT REQUIREMENTS:

Language Arts…………….... 4 credits

Mathematics………….…….. 3 credits

Social Studies……………….. 3 credits (one credit each of US history, global studies, & citizenship)

Science………………..……… 3 credits (one credit each of Earth science, chemistry, and biology)

Health/Phys Ed/Driver Ed….... 2 credits

Electives……………………...13 Credits

Total Credits Required……… 28

 

NOTE: During a learner’s 4 years at Central York High School, they will have the opportunity to schedule 32 or more credits. This allows 4+ additional elective credits past the 28 needed for graduation, as described above.

Per the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), all learners in the class of 2023 and beyond must also fulfill the Keystone graduation requirement through one of the following pathways:

- PATHWAY 1 - Earn a score of Proficient or Advanced on all three Keystone Exams (Algebra I, English II, and Biology)


- PATHWAY 2 - Earn a combined scores of 4452 or higher on the three Keystone Exams


- PATHWAY 3 - Meet one of the following:

       - Earn a PSAT score of 970 or above
       - Earn a SAT score of 1010 or above
       - Earn a ACT score of 21 or above
       - Earn a ASVAB score of 31 or above
       - Pass a college course in the academic area for each Keystone exam not passed
       - Complete an approved pre-apprenticeship program
       - Gain acceptance to an accredited college with evidence of the ability to enroll in college-level coursework


- PATHWAY 4 has 2 parts.
    Meet one of the following:
       - Pass a college course
       - Earn an industry-recognized credential
       - Gain acceptance to a 2-year college with evidence of the ability to enroll in college-level coursework
    And meet two of the following:
       - Score proficient or advanced on one Keystone exam
       - Meet the requirements for NCAA Division II eligibility
       - Complete a service learning project
       - Obtain full time employment
       - Enlist in the military on active duty
       - Complete an internship
       - Pass a college course
       - Earn an industry-recognized credential
       - Gain acceptance to a 2-year college with evidence of the ability to enroll in college-level coursework
