The Central York Athletic Hall of Fame inducted six new members ahead of the Panthers' first varsity home football game of the 2024 season. 

This year's inductees include:

  • Jim Rife | Basketball, Baseball | Central York Class of 1965
  • Marty Trimmer | Administrator | Central York Class of 1977 and Central York Athletic Director from 2001 – 2021
  • Shelly Stallsmith | Volleyball | Central York Class of 1981
  • Helen Gemmill | Volleyball | Central York Class of 1982
  • Travis Motley | Football | Class of 2000
  • Kelsey Ibarra Peebles | Cross Country, Track | Central York Class of 2013

Jim Rife

Athletic Hall of Fame members receives an award on the football field

Jim is a 1965 graduate of Central York. Jim was a 3 year varsity athlete in basketball and baseball. He led the Panthers to a league title in 1965 averaging 27 points a game and was named the Outstanding York County Athlete. He played catcher in Baseball and was the leagues top hitter. He led his American Legion Baseball team to a State Championship in 1964. Jim was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1966 where he played 2 seasons. Jim graduated from Lebanon Valley College and officiated basketball for 32 years from the High School level to major College Basketball. He officiated in many of the the major conferences and worked games in the NIT and NCAA tournaments including an Elite 8 Championship game.  After officiating Jim was an NBA neutral observer for 10 years and currently is an NCAA video evaluator for the ACC and Big 12. Jim was also inducted into the York Area Sports Hall of Fame and currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Marty Trimmer

Marty is a 1977 graduate of Central York and a distinguished two-sport athlete, having excelled in both baseball and basketball. As a two-year starter on the basketball team, he averaged 20 points per game during his senior year and earned a selection to the All-County team. After completing his college education, Marty returned to Central York to coach basketball for 20 years, 15 of which were served as the Head Coach, ranking second in all-time wins for the program. In 2001, he took on the role of Athletic Director at Central, serving in this capacity for the next 20 years. Under his leadership and vision, our athletic program gained recognition at both the district and state levels. Marty's unwavering commitment to excellence, sportsmanship, and support for his coaches and athletes is unmatched. He was a founding member of the Panther Foundation and the Central York Athletic Hall of Fame and has also acted as the district chair for volleyball. Marty Trimmer exemplifies Central Pride, passionately supports our school colors of orange and black, and is known for coining the phrase, “It’s a great day to be a Panther!” He is not only a dedicated teacher and coach but also a mentor, friend, and a revered pillar of our community.

Shelly Stallsmith

Shelly is a 1981 graduate of Central York.  Shelly was a 4 year starter on the Volleyball team when they finished District runner-up her junior year and District 3 Champions her Senior year. Shelly was named to the All State Volleyball team her Senior year and along with Cheryl Rhein were the first in program history to be so named.  She also played 2 years of basketball and Tennis.  She continued her Volleyball career at Shippensburg where she was a 4 year starter and set University records in career aces.  Shelly has been covering Area sports for 30 years and was inducted into the West Shore Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.  She is currently a sports reporter for the York Daily Record and lives in the York area.

 

 

 

Helen Gemmill

Helen is a 1982 graduate of Central York. She was a 3 year starter on the Volleyball teams that won a district Title and placed 5th in the State her junior and senior year. She also played Field Hockey and basketball.  She continued her athletic career at the university of Chicago where she excelled in volleyball and Softball.  She was selected to numerous All-Conference teams and was the Volleyball Team MVP.  In 1986 she received the Dudley Medal, the top award given at the university to a woman athlete, recognizing leadership and skill in varsity sports.  Helen earned her Law Degree at Washington University and is currently a member of the Law Firm of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC in Harrisburg.  She also serves as a deacon at Faith Bible Fellowship in York. 

 

 

Travis Motley

Travis is a 2000 graduate of Central York High School.  Travis was a 3 sport athlete playing Football, Basketball and Volleyball. He excelled in football where he was a 3 year captain on the football team.  He was the 1999 Super 24 and YAIAA Player of the Year at Quarterback.  Travis set Central York and York County Passing and Touchdown records which stood for 19 years. He led the 1999 team to a undefeated season and first District appearance in 24 years.  Travis played his college football at Mansfield University setting passing records at Mansfield.  He also played professionally in the Arena Football League. Travis currently is a Sales Manager at Bob Ruth Ford and lives in the Central York School District.

 

 

 

Kelsey Ibarra Peebles

Kelsey is a 2013 graduate of Central York.  Kelsey was 7 time letter winner in XC and Track.  She made her mark as a distance runner where  she was a 2010 PIAA District 3 XC Champion and named to the 2010 All-State XC team.  In 2011 she was the YAIAA Champion in the 800 meter run and finished 2nd in the 1600 meter run. Kelsey was a PIAA qualifier in 2011 and 2013 in the 3200 meter run.  Following High School she ran Division 1 XC and Track at Lipscomb University.  She was named to the 2013 Athletic Sun Conference All- Freshman Team and her XC team won the Conference Championship all 4 years.  Kelsey currently lives in York working in Healthcare.  She enjoys running an occasional Marathon and chasing her 1 year old son. 

 

 

 

About the Athletic Hall of Fame

The Central York Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2019 to recognize athletes, coaches, and administrators who have excelled and made an impact on the Central York Athletics program.  Nominations are accepted every year, and more information is available on the District Website. Athletes must be out of school for ten years. Coaches and administrators must be out of their roles for at least one year.
