CYHS E-Sports Team Kicks Off Inaugural Season

Central York's first official season of Esports got underway this fall with the Central Gaming team. This team consisted of students from the high school that expressed an interest in gaming competitively against schools from all across Pennsylvania. The team competed in two games, Valorant and Rocket League, as part of the PIEA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Esports Association). The students had a strong showing in their first year and all four teams made it into their respective playoffs. Both teams playing Rocket League made it past the first round of playoffs, but ran into stiff competition early on. They are all underclassmen and will be back at it next year with some experience under their belts.

The varsity Valorant team (ranked 23rd going into playoffs) made a run to the Elite Eight, knocking off #10 Lampeter Strasburg and #7 Thomas Jefferson, only to barely miss the semi-finals by losing to the team that went on to play in the championship game. The JV Valorant team made it all the way to the state finals held at St. Joseph University in Philadelphia. The whole team took a trip to Philadelphia to compete and support the team. After a hard fought game - our team won the JV State Championship!

Central Gaming will be back at it in the Spring competing in Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. The kids are ready to get back to work and hopefully continue their great first year competing!
