The Role of the Coordinator

The Central York Cyber Academy Coordinator
serves a variety of roles to meet the needs of
students so that each learner may strive to 
achieve his or her full potential.

The role of the Coordinator at Central York
Cyber Academy is to:

  • Oversee the enrollment process for new students
  • Meet with and assess student needs prior to enrollment
  • Coordinate new student orientation
  • Guide student decision-making about course selection by reviewing academic records to ensure appropriate placement in courses
  • Track student progress toward grade advancement and graduation, monitoring  academic progress, suggesting strategies for success, and recommending remediation as needed
  • Monitor student attendance in accordance with PA State law and District policy and procedures
  • Maintain communication with both parents and students about student progress and opportunities
  •  Connect students and families to resources and services within and outside of school. Examples include:
    • Student Assistance, Peer tutoring, School Counselor, School Social Worker, Special Education Director
  • Facilitate a successful transition for students entering CYCA or returning to Central York School District
  • Assist in coordinating student participation in PSSA and Keystone Exams
  • Facilitate communication between Odysseyware Academy, students, parents, and educators
  • Serve as a student advocate

Maintain pace in your coursework
   Elementary and Middle School Learners:

  • Elementary and middle school students enrolled in 4 courses should strive to complete 20 assignments per week (approximately 1-2 assignments in each class per day/5 days per week). 
  • Elementary and Middle school students who are successful in achieving this goal tend to spend 20 hours per week completing coursework.

   High School Learners:

  • High school students, enrolled in 4 courses, should strive to complete at least a total of 40 assignments per week (approximately 2-3 assignments in each class per day/5 days per week).
  • High school students who are successful in achieving this goal tend to spend 30-35 hours per week completing coursework.

Maintain appropriate school attendance          

It is expected that students exhibit regular school attendance, even in an online setting. Without regular attendance and submission of assignments a student is placing his/her academic goal of passing the course, grade advancement, and earning sufficient credits required for graduation in jeopardy. In addition, Central York School District regards cyber truancy in the same manner as truancy from the traditional school.

Be mindful of course weighting

Each course has a variety of components including lessons, quizzes, projects, and tests. To be successful it is important to complete and submit all assignments to the best of your ability. Each component is assigned a weight value as follows:

  • Lessons - 15% of the total grade
  •  Quizzes - 25% of the total grade  
  •  Projects - 30% of the total grade
  • Tests - 30% of the total grade

Ways to communicate with the instructor include:

  • Using the help button within the lesson if you need help with a specific lesson question
