YOU GOT IT!  WEEK OF NOVEMBER 5th

Dear CYHS Panthers -

1st Quarter is already finished!  If you met your academic and personal goals, GREAT.  Keep it up and set new ones for this upcoming quarter.  If you struggled, PLEASE buckle down for this quarter. It will fly by.  Sign up for FLEX daily with the teachers you need extra assistance.  Additionally, there is peer tutoring during FLEX and after school tutoring with teachers in some subjects.  Please see Mr. Hamme for more details about after school tutoring.

Congratulations JROTC
Air Force Junior ROTC Headquarter’s Regional Director for Pennsylvania was here at CYHS last Friday completing a 3-year comprehensive review and inspection  of our JROTC Program.  At the conclusion of the inspection, the Regional Director commended the cadets and staff.  He is recommending our unit for the Distinguished Unit Award with Merit.  Out of the approximately 900 AFJROTC units across the world, this recognition is only earned by 2%. Congratulations cadets, Lt Col Sprenkle, and Chief Sandacz on this accomplishment.

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be given to ALL Juniors on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 beginning at 7:45 a.m.  The PSAT allows students: (1) to find out what the college board exams are like, (2) to compete for scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, (3) to predict their SAT scores from their PSAT scores, (4) to estimate their chances of being accepted by the college of their choice, (5) to have their names placed on mailing lists of colleges that are looking for students of comparable scores (optional).

It is recommended that any four function scientific or graphing calculator be used for the mathematics sections. Cell Phones or any device with internet access is not allowed.  You are responsible for having a calculator on test day.  Please also come prepared with several #2 pencils.

Sophomore registrations will be September 17th   – 25th and accepted on a first come, first serve basis as tests are available.  Registration form must be turned in to the Guidance Office by September 25th at 3:00 p.m. at a cost of $16.00.  (Forms are available in the Guidance Office.)

From the Health Room
There is an additional immunization requirement for entrance into 12th grade, Meningococcal (MCV) 16-year dose.  It is important that parents/guardians of current 11th graders confirm with your healthcare provider that your child is up-to-date with all required immunizations for entering 12th grade.  We strongly encourage parents/guardians to have this vaccination administered this spring while your child is still in the 11th grade and documentation given to the Health Room so it can be entered into each student’s electronic health record. You can scan them to mdonner@cysd.k12.pa.us, fax them to NEW CYHS Health Room fax # at 717-434-1791, or drop them off to the nurse’s office.

Cold and flu season will be here soon.  Cold medicine must be given at home. We do not have a doctor’s order to give this during the school day.  There are 12 hour cold medicines available at your local pharmacy.  Student are NOT permitted to carry cold/flu medicine, but students are permitted to carry cough drops in school as long as they are in the original packaging and they have a permission note signed by their parent or guardian.  The note needs to be kept in their backpack along with their cough drops and they are not permitted to share them with other students.

Cold and flu germs are easily spread by sneezing or coughing. In order to prevent infecting people around you, keep a tissue in the close vicinity, throw it away after you used it and wash your hands. Droplets – after coughing or sneezing that stay on your fingers – can easily be passed on other objects and surfaces, such as door handles, computer keyboards, desks or dishes. Also, avoid touching your nose or eyes.
