Quantum theory and the Periodic Table

AP Chem students are wrapping up the unit on reactions in the aqueous medium with a couple of labs. One is on qualitative analysis and the other on a redox titration. Test is likely on Thursday Oct. 10.

Welcome to 2013-14

Welcome AP Chem students to a new school year. We have a record number of students with two very full classes. Students have quickly begun doing labs and reviewing materials from their previous chemistry course. Quiz 1 went well and we are quickly moving on to Quiz #2 by the end of next week.

Mission Accomplished

AP students worked hard right up to the exam and hopefully had a successful experience! Smiley We were right on schedule for the last unit on Electrochemistry and had a full week of review. We are now doing some research and are going to make aspirin. Hopefully we will also get an opportunity to visit the pool and to do a couple of organic labs to round out the year.

On to Thermo!

Students have just completed the rather lengthy acid/base unit. We will begin a Thermodynamics unit after the holiday break.
The exam for that unit will be on April 17. Then we will have a unit of study on Electrochemistry. The exam for that will be on April 27. That gives us a week for an all out review for the AP exam on May 7.

The AP exam is rapidly approaching so we are working hard to wrap up Ch. 17 and then push on to Thermodynamics and Electrochemistry. Likely test next week on Ch.16/17.

AP Students did very well on their Equilibrium exam and are moving along nicely with acids and bases. We will be moving into acid/base equilibrium, buffer solutions and titrations before our exam - most likely near March 26.

AP Chem students will be examining gases this week. We completed a lab where we calculated the molar mass of a vapor and next week we will be experimentally determining the value of R, the ideal gas constant.

Covalent Bonding and Shapes

AP students have been working on covalent bonding and shapes. This unit is mostly review from first year chemistry. The quiz on Ch. 8 is Nov. 17. We will continue into Ch. 9 with a model building lab.
