Foundations
COURSE OVERVIEW
The Art Studio course is the prerequisite class for the art program. Essentially, it serves as an overview class to the programs three focused areas, Drawing & Painting, Sculpture, & 2D Design. Students will learn various media such as pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, and acrylics, plaster, mold-making and introductory digital software. Methods range from representational to abstract. Elements of art and Principles of design are taught throughout the course.
Students will study art history, art criticism, and aesthetics throughout the course.

Students are exploring the the process of creating and conceiving ideas. They are exposed to the concepts of creating, connecting, and revising their ideas. This is the initial step that will ultimately lead to a fully student generated product from start to finish. These skills are based on the National Visual Arts Standards. Drawing and Painting I
COURSE OVERVIEW
This class is designed to introduce students into drawing and painting concepts and materials. If you enjoy drawing and painting or simply want to get better at either one, this is the class for you. While we address traditional skills (shading, rendering, proportions), we will also equally foster the exploration of creativity. We will be working with a variety of visual media and techniques.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Students will:
-Refine and retool observation skills
-Utilize learned creative thinking techniques
-Integrate visual judgments into common topics
-Learn about contemporary art as well as periods in Art History
-Understand and identify the Elements of Art & Principles of Design
-Experiment with a wide variety of drawing media and painting techniques
