Dual Enrollment at the High School

Dual Enrollment at the High School

A Partnership Between Penn State York
& Central York High School

Central York High School has partnered with Penn State York to offer a dual enrollment program held after the school day at the high school. The progam allows high school students to take college courses at a 50 percent tuition reduction, earn college credits and apply those credits earned to a college degree.

How It Works
  • A Penn State York instructor teaches a Penn State York college course after school hours on the high school campus.
  • The Spring Semester 2013 course is offered Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:50 to 4:15 p.m. at the high school.
  • The cost of the course is half of the normal Penn State York tuition rate, plus an activity fee, and totals $881/student.
  • The program is open to junior or senior students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
  • Credits earned are Penn State college credits, and will transfer to any college or university that accepts Penn State credits.

Benefits
  • Courses are offered at the high school, so students do not have to travel to a Penn State campus.
  • The district Activity Bus provides transportation home from the course for those students in need.
  • Courses are offered at a significantly reduced tuition rate - 50% of the normal cost, plus an activitiy fee - of $881.
  • Penn State York awards students college credit upon successful completion of the course, which may be transferred to universities or colleges that accept Penn State University credit transfers.
  • Completing college-bound credits gives students a head start and eases the transition from high school to college.
