Working with Central York School District, Health Hero PA is excited to kick off our 2016 school located influenza vaccination clinics!    To help keep your child well, Health Hero will be providing injectable flu vaccinations on Tuesday, October 4th.

Dear Central York Student and Family:

Welcome to the start of the 2016-2017 school year.  We hope your summer was enjoyable and relaxing.  We are very excited and looking forward to welcoming our students and families back to another outstanding year beginning on Wednesday, August 24.

We are writing to share with you several important items of interest regarding the upcoming school year.

  • Schedules: On August 12, students will be able to view their schedules online via Skyward.  To access Skyward, students should visit our district website, and click on the High School website. Then click on the “Skyward Student Access Login” icon located in the middle of the page.  If students do not have computer or internet access, we will provide a copy of their schedule during CLC period on the first day of school.
  • Central Learning Coach (CLC): All students will be assigned a CLC whose classroom they will report to after first period each school day.  CLC lists will be posted in several locations throughout the building during the first week of school to assist students.
  • New Student/9th Grade Orientation: Our New Student/9th Grade Orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16, from 6 to 8 pm.  At this orientation you will be able to use a school map and your schedule to find your classrooms, library (The HUB), gym, offices (guidance, main, career center), and most importantly, the cafeteria!
  • Fall Open House: Our Fall Open House is scheduled for Thursday, September 8, from 6 to 8 pm. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet with your child’s first semester teachers.
  • Administrative Team: Your Administrative Team for the 2016-2017 school year is as follows:

  • Mr. Gregory Potteiger – 10th Grade Asst. Principal & 12th Grade A-K

  • Calendars & Student Handbooks: Students will not receive a printed copy of the 2016-2017 District Calendar this year.  The PDF version is available online now, and may be accessed by visiting and clicking on the “Parents and Family” and “Calendar 2016-2017.”  Student Handbooks will not be printed and distributed this year.  They are also available online and may be accessed in the same location under “Parents and Family.”  A signature sheet will be distributed to all parents/guardians at the start of school and will need to be signed and returned to your child’s school.  The signature sheet will serve as a record that you and your child have reviewed the current Student Handbook.
  • Security Procedure: Central York School District considers the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff to be of the utmost importance.  In a continued effort to proactively safeguard our students, faculty and staff, we will continue to use our management system called School Gate Guardian.  Central York School District reminds all parents/visitors to produce a valid photo ID before gaining admittance to a district school or building.

Governor Wolf recently signed legislation adjusting the PA graduation requirements.

You can learn more about the changes here, in a letter from Mr. Grove and Mr. Caufman.  Also, a chart has been prepared with the CYSD current graduation requirements.  You can find that chart at this link.


Seminar courses will be starting shortly for the Fall semester. Sign-up early in the Flextime System because space is limited and they fill up fast. You can register in the Flextime System on or after September 8th.  Courses will begin during the week of September 12th and conclude before the holiday  break.

The PSAT will be held at Central York High School on Saturday October 15, 2016.

Information for the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) was recently mailed home to all 11th grade students.  Taking the PSAT is an excellent opportunity to practice and become familiar with the SAT, which we encourage 11th grade students to take in the spring.  Please note that the deadline to register for the PSAT is September 23, 2016 for 11th grade students.   

10th grade students will be allowed to register for the PSAT September 26 –October 3, 2016 on a first-come first-served basis, as tests are available.  Registration forms will be available in the Guidance Office beginning Friday, September 23, 2016.  

Testing will take place on October 15, 2016 from 8:00 A.M. to approximately 11:30 AM.  Doors by the Atrium will open at 7:30 AM.

All schools are asked to donate nutritious food, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent and paper products.

CYHS has partnered with Parchment to send all transcripts electronically.  These transcripts are typically required by colleges, military recruiters, employers and many others.  Please contact the Guidance Office for more information.
